Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.
We’re honored to share the story of Joshua Kelly, a Marine who has faced unimaginable hardships with unwavering strength and resilience.
Story submitted by Sharon Kelly: "Our daughter, Michelle, is a retired Marine (served for 20 years); her son, Joshua (our Grandson) joined the Marines — he served in Iraq and then Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, his Humvee hit an IED and Joshua was pinned in the vehicle and suffered major injuries. After 16 surgeries on his feet/legs, it was decided they needed to amputate one of his legs. Josh was eventually medically retired from the Marine Corps but he continues to stay in touch with his fellow Marines via Zoom meetings he schedules to give them all a chance to talk and share how they are doing. Joshua is married & they have 3 sons 5,3,6 months. Even though has a prosthetic leg, he is an active trout fishing guide in the summer months and an elk hunting guide during elk season in Colorado. I’m terribly proud of Josh and all he’s accomplished!"
Thank you, Joshua, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
