Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.

We’re honored to share the story of Richard Halperin, a dedicated veteran whose life exemplifies courage, honor, and an unwavering love for his country.

Story submitted by Chelsey Halperin: "I am writing to nominate my grandfather, Richard Halperin, a dedicated veteran, to receive a flag in recognition of his service to our country. His commitment and sacrifices during the time of his being in the army exemplify the values of courage, honor, and patriotism. Throughout his military career, my grandfather demonstrated an unwavering dedication to protecting our freedoms. He faced many different challenges which not only shaped his character but also positively impacted those around him. His stories of bravery and resilience inspire not only our family but also the community. Beyond his military service, my grandfather has continued to embody the spirit of service through his involvement in taking flags to the cemetery for those who have already passed. He has always believed in giving back, showing younger generations the importance of honoring our country and its principles. Receiving a flag would not only honor his sacrifices but also serve as a meaningful reminder of the values he has instilled in our family. It would be a profound way to recognize his legacy and the sacrifices made by all veterans. My grandfather was in the Vietnam War he really cares about his country. He is 79 years old. He has Alzheimer’s and dementia. Something like this would really mean a lot to him as he can no longer take flags out and put them at the cemetery. He loves his veterans hat. He wears it every day.

Thank you, Richard, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
