Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.

We’re honored to share the story of James L. Schreiner, whose service and dedication span decades and whose sacrifices continue to impact those around him.

Story submitted by Diane Schreiner: "Enlisted in the army and served 2 tours in Vietnam.  Always said he was ‘just a truck driver’ but we finally found out he was driving loads of ammo and supplies to Nui ba den.  Upon discharge he joined the Chicago PD where he served for 31 years in some of the toughest area.  Many days he worked 3 jobs in 24 hours to provide a good education and life for our 2 sons.  Upon retirement he devoted many hours volunteering with the Knights of Columbus and VFW.  He loved playing Santa at church and VA hospital.  He held top offices in both organizations.  He also drove a school bus for 12 years after retiring from CPD.  He somehow managed to coach little league for 12 seasons - while working CPD and his other jobs.  Through this all and with his guidance he raised our son to both be career military officers.  Now agent Orange is giving him health issues but he still continues to be involved."

Thank you, James, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
