Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.
We’re honored to share the story of Mike James, a proud Navy veteran who served his country with distinction for nearly 15 years as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate (AE).
Story submitted by Barbara James: "I nominate my son Mike James, who served in the US Navy for almost 15 years as an AE. He’s the father of 3 kids and teaches them to honor our county and our US Flag. Mike served his country honorably. Many of the things he learned through his years of service & sacrifice in the Navy have benefited him throughout his college years and in his career and as a father. He will always be my hero! When he was home on a short trip during his “A” school in Pensacola FL, during the Fourth of July holiday, he & Navy buddy were playing basketball in our backyard as I was putting up a new American Flag on our deck - those two Sailors immediately came to attention, saluted and waited for me to remove the old flag before they stopped saluting! I was shocked by their actions but moved to tears by their comments about their oath to protect our country and our Flag and to even give their lives for that Flag if needed. I have always been patriotic and loved our American Flag, but I’ve never looked at that flag the same as I used to before that Fourth of July when two young Sailors taught me a lesson about the flag’s importance in their lives."
Thank you, Mike, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
