Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.

We’re honored to share the inspiring story of Jannette Rempfer, a trailblazer who transformed from a devoted 20-year Army spouse to a dedicated Soldier in her own right.

Story submitted by Daniel T. Rempfer “Jannette and I grew up in Philadelphia, PA and we met in 1995 when I was a Senior US Army ROTC Cadet at Villanova University. We were married in 1997. Following our marriage, I entered active duty in the Army and would serve on active duty for 26 years. Jannette and I were stationed at Fort Carson, CO in 2004 and served in CO until 2007. While stationed at Fort Carson in 2006, I transferred my GI Bill benefits to Jannette so she could begin her studies in Nursing. Jannette graduated in 2010 and began working as a Registered Nurse, however it was not until 2017 when Jannette gave serious thought to serving the country. Having been selected for a Direct Commission into the US Army in 2018, Jannette received her orders to active duty on the day I completed 20 years of active service. Nearly unheard of in today’s Armed Forces, Jannette went from being a 20-year Army wife to a Soldier herself.

She entered active duty 1 week before her 42nd birthday; Remarkable! Following her initial training in Oklahoma and Texas, Jannette moved to Hawaii to serve at Tripler Army Medical Center, while I served abroad on my 4th tour to the Middle East. During her time stationed in Hawaii, Jannette would deploy to Seattle, WA in 2020 as part of the military response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Standing up the 47th Field Hospital at the Seattle Seahawks Training Facility, Jannette would earn the Humanitarian Service Medal. In mid-2023 Jannette was medically retired from the Army due to injuries sustained while on active duty. Now, both retired, Jannette and I decided to move back to Colorado Springs. Ever since 2004, we knew we would come back to retire in this beautiful state. Enjoying hiking, camping, hunting, country music and multiple sports, Jannette and I have had a life-long love of our country and the outdoors. In retirement Jannette continues to make a positive impact in our community serving as an Operating Room Nurse at Audubon Surgical Center in Colorado Springs.

Achievements: Graduate of the US Army Medical Department’s Basic Course, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon"

Thank you, Jannette, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
