Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.

We are honored to share the story of Donald D. Marturano, a distinguished Navy veteran who served with pride on the USS Intrepid during the Vietnam War era.

Story submitted by Joseph Mattera “I proudly nominate my father-in-law, Donald, a distinguished Navy Veteran and proud American. He served on the USS Intrepid (CVA-11) during the Vietnam War era, a challenging time for US service members. Despite this, he served with unwavering pride, a sentiment he continues to display today. Donald was one of only 250 former crewmembers present when the Intrepid returned to Pier 86 on October 2, 2008 after two years away for extensive repairs. He enthusiastically guided family and friends during trips the Intrepid Museum, sharing his deep connection to the ship. He proudly wears his custom Navy/Intrepid jacket in colder months and fulfilled a lifelong dream by installing a flagpole on his property. Donald would be deeply honored to receive a US-made flag from your esteemed company. I know he would fly it with immense pride, and add this special recognition to his stories of being a proud Navy Veteran."

Thank you, Donald, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
