Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.
We’re proud to share the story of Chris Laidlaw, a dedicated Navy Seabee who has given so much to his country and community.
Story submitted by Casey Bradley “Chris served as a Navy Seabee and I feel that they often do not get the recognition they deserve or as much attention as other areas of service. Chris spent his time serving on multiple deployments as a builder with the Seabees in the early 2000s. In addition to this he lived in Gulfport, Mississippi during Hurricane Katrina and the destruction it caused. From minute one Chris planned as best he could for the storm and then hit the ground running aiding others anywhere he could. He had supplies and monetary donations brought to the areas impacted with the help of his Mom and the story was covered in the local newspaper in his hometown in Ohio also. Chris helped to search through the devastation for survivors and those deceased around Gulfport for days after the storm, finding multiple casualties. Once Chris completed his time in the military he went to work in the construction field in his home state using his skills learned as a Seabee. He has been active in Ohio ever since returning home and doing his best to honor other service members and veterans whenever he can by attending memorials for the fallen. He has been active in protecting our freedoms on the homefront with local gun rights organizations in Ohio and in other states bringing awareness to the issues opposing the second amendment. I feel like Chris is incredibly deserving as a veteran to be honored every day, but especially November 11th for the good works he continues to do."
Thank you, Chris, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
