Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.

We’re honored to share the story of SSG Will Castillo, a hero who has overcome unimaginable challenges and continues to honor his fallen comrades and his country in extraordinary ways.

Story submitted by Rhonda Kirkpatrick: "SSG Will Castillo was the sole survivor of an IED explosion in Fallujah, Iraq, on April 27, 2007. Our only son, David Austin Kirkpatrick and his friend Eddie were both KIA (Killed In Action). Will had several serious injuries but was in touch with our family right away, and has since become a true friend. Despite his serious injuries and the loss of his leg he continues to honor David, Eddie and the U.S.A. in everything he does.

Will has become a U.S. Para Bobsled National and World Champion several times. He loves God, family, and his country. Though he lives in Florida and we are in Indiana, he has visited us several times. Last time he brought his Para World Championship trophy to show David at his gravesite. He will never know how much he has helped our family through this tragedy and continues to honor our country. We knew David as our sweet little boy and brother and Will brings us a part of David as a soldier that we didn’t know as well."

Thank you, Will, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
