Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.
We’re honored to share the story of Joseph Hammers, a retired service member whose commitment to his country continues in his work with young people in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Story submitted by Kimberly Hammers “My husband fully retired from a life of service to our country. He knows works along side me at a public high school in Chesapeake, Virginia. Joseph is not only a highly regarded member of the Exceptional Learners Department, but he is also active in the larger school community. For example, he is a sponsor of our Student-2-Student club on campus, which aims to help military students transition to their new school while also celebrating the students of military families at our school. In fact, tomorrow he will take a lead role in constructing our high school’s annual Veterans Day recognition know. As the Field of Valor. He, some of our government students, and our cadet corps will cap off weeks of preparation by planting tagged flags to honor area service members. All proceeds go to the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post and our school’s S2S program. This visual is incredibly moving, largely because of his guidance. He now gives his life to our country through his service to education. He is and always has been my hero."
Thank you, Joseph, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
