Throughout our Flags for Heroes campaign, we've had the privilege of learning about the incredible veterans who have served our country with courage and dedication. These stories, filled with sacrifice and resilience, serve as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of patriotism.

We’re honored to share the story of Richard McCombs, a man whose service to both his country and his community reflects his unwavering dedication to others.

Story submitted by Joyce McCombs “Richard served 23 years in the National Guard. He rose through the ranks and became a Major. He served his country by helping his fellow citizens through missions in crisis situations such as hurricane relief in Florida back in 1992. Since his service he also serves, volunteers his time to fellow citizens by donating his time to Feed The Boro. Richard has been serving his community for about 4 years. Feed The Boro is a community service organization that helps people with food to last for about 2 weeks to families. Richard helps coordinate where and how the food pallets should be placed in order for it to successfully run for cars to pull up and bags of food placed inside their cars. Richard is also a full time high school Science teacher and a part time Science teacher for night high school, twice a week. He is also a Christian and a member of his church for over 20 years. He really has a heart of gold and is the type of man that will give his shirt to anyone in need. Richard stays pretty busy even in the summer. He travels to Ohio to do teacher related work for a week. He travels with students to contest for AP Science. He also writes recommendations for his college bound students. He might have some time to clean the yard. He stays busy. We were married this past July 6th. He was born on July 5th and loves July 4th. He has 2 sons from a previous marriage. Richard is well known and loved in our community. He would be shocked if he won something like this and be recognized by his service to our country."

Thank you, Richard, for your honorable service, sacrifice, and dedication.
